Absolutely not! No acting experience is required. Players can participate at their own comfort level. The murder mystery places participants in groups and this is even better. The more gregarious players can take the spotlight while the more reserved players can share clues or sleuth away in the background.

Yes!

Even if the birthday person runs it themselves, our games come with a step by step run sheet that guides you through every part of the game. The murderer is only identified in the full story so you can keep the game spoiler free until everyone finds out.

If you’re planning a surprise birthday party, it’s best to bring in the murder mystery host after the surprise has taken place. Once the surprise happens, there is usually 30–45 minutes of meet and greet while the guest of the moment greets everyone. This makes it difficult to start the game straight away. For example, if the surprise is at 7:00pm, have your host arrive around 7:30pm so they can set up and begin once things settle.

If the host arrives before the surprise, they may be left waiting with little to do. Similarly, for workplace events, it’s better not to surprise your colleagues—letting them know in advance will lead to a more engaged and enjoyable experience.

Kids are fine and that is up to you. Older kids will often participate.

Speeches and birthday cake should be completed at the end after the mystery has wrapped up.
